Fiona Lowe, the 13-year-old daughter of actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter, has died, her parents announced Tuesday.
"We are devastated beyond comprehension to share that our beautiful daughter Fiona passed away," Lowe and Painter said in a joint statement. "She was the brightest light in our lives and brought joy to everyone who knew her."
The couple did not release a cause of death or say where Fiona died. They asked for privacy as the family grieves.
Fiona was the middle of Lowe and Painter's three daughters, between Nixie and Mabel. The family has kept its home life largely out of the public eye, though Lowe occasionally posted about his children on social media.
Lowe, 56, is an Emmy-winning actor best known for his role as Sam Seaborn's deputy on "The West Wing" and for his work on "Life Goes On," "Melrose Place" and "Pretty Little Liars." He is the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe.
Painter is a film and television producer whose credits include "Beautiful Boy" and "The Glass Castle." The couple married in 2010.
News of Fiona's death drew an outpouring of support from friends and colleagues in Hollywood. Rob Lowe posted a tribute to his niece on Instagram, calling her "a light that will never dim."
"Our hearts are broken for Chad, Kim and their family," actress Alyssa Milano wrote on X. "Sending love and strength during this impossible time."
The family has not announced plans for a memorial service. A representative for Lowe declined to comment further when reached by Headings.US.
Lowe has spoken publicly about the challenges of raising children in the entertainment industry, telling interviewers he prioritized keeping his daughters grounded. In a 2022 podcast appearance, he described fatherhood as "the role of a lifetime."
Fiona attended school in Los Angeles, where the family lives. Classmates and parents from her school community have begun organizing a vigil, according to local reports.
Grief counselors were made available to students, a school spokesperson said, though the spokesperson declined to name the school, citing the family's request for privacy.
The death is the second loss for the Lowe family in recent years. Chad and Rob Lowe's mother, Barbara Hepler, died in 2003.
Donations in Fiona's memory may be directed to a children's charity of the family's choosing, though no specific organization has been named.
