The New York Giants are releasing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., sources told NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, ending his reunion with the franchise after three games and no catches.
Beckham, 33, played 19 offensive snaps this season and was targeted just once. That came in Sunday's 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans, when a Jameis Winston pass intended for him was nearly intercepted.
The move came down to roster math. The Giants had to make a decision this week on wide receiver Braxton Berrios, who had run out of practice squad elevations and serves as the team's punt returner. Beckham's spot was the one that had to go.
He is not expected to be added to the Giants' practice squad, a source told ESPN.
Beckham signed with New York in the spring hoping to finish what he called "unfinished business" with the team that drafted him 12th overall in 2014. Coach John Harbaugh told him at the time he would have to earn his roster spot and could be cut during the summer.
He survived that cut, making the initial 53-man roster as the fifth receiver, and the team expected him to have a role in the offense. That role never materialized.
Beckham last played in the NFL in 2024, catching nine passes for 54 yards with the Miami Dolphins. Before that, he had not taken a regular-season snap since 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens, where he crossed paths with Harbaugh, then an assistant there.
His career began in East Rutherford with spectacular promise. Beckham won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, made three Pro Bowls, and produced one of the most famous catches in league history — a one-handed grab against the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie. The Giants traded him to Cleveland in 2019.
Harbaugh was asked last week about Beckham's limited snaps and when the veteran might get more involved. Days later, Beckham was gone.
Former NFL linebacker A.J. Hawk said on ESPN he would not be surprised if another team signs Beckham, though the market for a 33-year-old receiver with one target in two years is uncertain.
For the Giants, the decision clears a path for Berrios to stay on the active roster and continue returning punts. For Beckham, it marks another stalled chapter in a career that once looked headed for Canton.
