President Trump Alleges Mortgage Fraud Against Senator Adam Schiff
Former President Donald Trump has accused California Senator Adam Schiff of mortgage fraud, claiming Schiff falsely listed his Maryland property as his primary residence to secure a favorable mortgage rate. The accusation emerged after federal housing authorities referred the case to the Justice Department for review.
According to President Trump, Schiff misrepresented the occupancy status of his Maryland home from 2009 until 2020, refinancing the property as a primary residence before eventually identifying it as a second home. Trump labeled Schiff a “scam artist” and called for his prosecution, claiming a pattern of fraudulent behavior.
Schiff, a notable Democratic critic of Trump and former chair of the House Intelligence Committee, has strongly denied the allegations. In a statement, Schiff’s office dismissed the claims as “politically motivated smears,” asserting that all property matters were handled transparently and with legal counsel. The senator owns both the Maryland house and a California condominium.
A memo from Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division noted possible “occupancy misrepresentation” but did not formally assert fraud. The original inquiry was initiated by the Federal Housing Finance Agency Inspector General, who requested loan documents related to Schiff’s real estate.
The dispute has heightened the longstanding rivalry between Trump and Schiff, drawing significant political and public scrutiny as federal authorities review the matter.
