Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said LeBron James would serve as the offense's primary creator if the team lands the four-time MVP, describing the 39-year-old forward as the ideal table-setter for a roster built on speed in transition.

Nurse made the comments while discussing how James would fit alongside Philadelphia's current personnel, a group he characterized as full of "grab-and-go" players who thrive when pushing the ball up the floor after rebounds.

"I just think LeBron, I consider him a great offense creator," Nurse said. "We got several guys that what I would call 'grab-and-go.'"

The coach's vision hinges on James handling primary playmaking duties while Philadelphia's wings and guards sprint ahead in transition. Nurse said the offense would function best when that first advantage — a defensive rebound followed by an immediate push — is preserved rather than slowed into half-court sets.

"If they get rebounds and their first advantage is to start pushing it up the floor and it stays that way, then they're going," Nurse said.

James averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game last season, numbers that would immediately make him Philadelphia's leading assist man. He has built a career as one of the NBA's premier passers, ranking fourth on the league's all-time assist list with more than 11,000.

Nurse's comments come as Philadelphia reshapes its roster around star center Joel Embiid, who has never advanced past the second round of the playoffs despite winning the 2023 MVP award. The Sixers have cycled through multiple lead guards in recent seasons, including James Harden and Tyrese Maxey, without reaching the conference finals.

Adding James would give Philadelphia a second ballhandler capable of initiating offense, allowing Maxey to play more off the ball. Maxey averaged a career-high 25.9 points last season while logging heavy minutes as the primary guard.

Nurse, who won the 2019 NBA championship as head coach of the Toronto Raptors, has emphasized pace since arriving in Philadelphia in 2023. His Raptors teams ranked among the league's top 10 in fast-break points in three of his five seasons.

James has not publicly commented on any interest in Philadelphia. He holds a player option for the 2025-26 season worth approximately $52.6 million with the Los Angeles Lakers.
