Alison Hammond, the British television presenter who co-hosts ITV's This Morning, was hospitalized Wednesday after abruptly leaving the live broadcast mid-segment, the network confirmed.
Hammond, 49, exited the set during the morning program, forcing producers to cut to a commercial break ahead of schedule. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to E! News. ITV has not released details on her condition or what prompted the exit.
The incident occurred during the show's regular weekday broadcast, which airs live from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. UK time and reaches roughly one million viewers daily. Co-host Dermot O'Leary remained on set after Hammond left.
Hammond has co-hosted This Morning since 2023, when she and O'Leary took over the Friday slot following the departures of Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. She first joined the program as a regular presenter in 2020, two decades after her breakout appearance as a contestant on Big Brother in 2002.
Before her rise in daytime television, Hammond worked as a cinema usher and a leg waxer in Birmingham, England. Her on-screen career expanded to include stints on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014 and a role as a team captain on the Sky panel show There's Something About Movies.
This Morning has faced scrutiny over its workplace culture since 2023, when Schofield left the program after admitting to an undisclosed relationship with a younger colleague. The show's editor, Martin Frizell, departed in 2024.
ITV declined to comment beyond confirming Hammond's hospitalization. Representatives for Hammond did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday.
Live television broadcasts occasionally require hosts to step away for medical reasons, but an on-air exit is rare. In 2022, BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker left the studio mid-program after feeling unwell and later said he had tested positive for COVID-19.
Hammond is also known in the United States for her red-carpet interviews at the Oscars and BAFTA Awards, where her enthusiastic segments have drawn millions of views online. She was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2022 for services to broadcasting and charity.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and streams on ITVX. The network did not say whether Hammond would return for Thursday's broadcast.
